Broadway Box Office Dips Amid Meg Stalter’s Absence and Softening Sales for ‘Every Brilliant Thing’

According to CinemaDrame News Agency, total Broadway box office gross fell by 6% last week, bringing in a combined $30.9 million. The primary factors behind the dip were the absence of Meg Stalter—star of the hit show Oh, Mary!—from most performances due to illness, alongside a relative decline in attendance for the solo show Every Brilliant Thing following Tracee Ellis Ross joining the cast.
Oh, Mary! at the Lyceum Theatre experienced a $129,000 drop, bringing its weekly gross down to $911,000. Meanwhile, Every Brilliant Thing—which consistently sold out during its previous runs starring Daniel Radcliffe and Mariska Hargitay—saw capacity drop to 77% following Tracee Ellis Ross taking over the role, posting a weekly gross of $361,000.
On the other end of the box office spectrum, Proof, starring Ayo Edebiri and Don Cheadle, concluded its run on a high note, wrapping up its final week with a stellar $934,000 gross and 100% capacity attendance. Major hit musicals such as Hamilton, Death of a Salesman, The Lion King, and MJ remained at the top of Broadway’s highest-grossing shows, continuing their strong performance from previous weeks.

“It’s crazy how much a single cast member’s absence can impact the overall numbers, but Meg Stalter really is the heart of Oh, Mary!. Also, huge congratulations to Ayo Edebiri and Don Cheadle for wrapping up Proof with a sold-out run—what a massive accomplishment!”
